(link here–NSFW). I am so happy for her!! I got to interview her in 2010 and she was polite, candid, honest and unapologetic about her thoughts and views, which I appreciate. I hope the book sells millions and that she is doing very, very well!

(Select the image to pre-order “I Am Jennie”)

I posted earlier this week a piece on porn stars who turn religious, but wrapped it all up to say that if you do the work; if you are or were a sex worker, it is for you and only you to process and understand. I’m going to guess that Jennie’s views today are not so very different than they were in 2010.

Our interview covers her transformation back into Jennifer Ketcham and her feelings about the adult industry and performers at that time. We discuss the difficulty of exiting porn and getting a regular job, her role on Dr. Drew’s rehab shows, porn stars who turn religious, society biases and the fact that she doesn’t regret her past but would never choose to do it again.

She talks about AIM Healthcare, which is no more, but should she still choose to donate counseling time, could always donate her time at the Free Speech Coalition and their Adult Production Health and Safety Services (APHSS).

And to impose an answer to yet another question about Jennifer Ketcham at the source link above (I do this in the interview, as well)–at the risk being wrong–her “naked” photo for the book cover is probably a mateaphor for her stripped down personality. Just my best guess.

Enjoy!

Synopsis:

Lydia talks about the May 11th, 2012 LA City Council Meeting regarding condoms in porn: the atmosphere; the public comments made by “Porno Dan” Leal, industry attorney Michael Fattorosi, FSC’s Diane Duke, AHF’s Mark McGrath and industry and 1st amendment attorney Allan Gelbard.

Longer overview:

I went to the LA City Council meeting last Friday because I’m helping my friend, Percy, with his documentary on condoms in pornography. I said it before and I’ll say it again, he stands to make a good film. As long as I can remain neutral, I want to help him get a well-rounded project that covers everything, but there is quite a bit to cover.

The one instance that stood out was AIDS Healthcare Foundation representative Mark McGrath’s question about how “are we going to conduct these investigations,” – regarding condom use on sets. “If the fire department and police can’t do it, when are we going to do a request for proposal?” After the meeting there was some speculation between adult industry members about whether or not they’d heard correctly. Basically, did Mark McGrath state he might be filing an RFP for AHF to become inspectors? The response was yes.

Some people feel that performers should be protected. In fact, many people feel that performers should be protected. Some also feel that this process is not going about it the right way. It is quite complicated and I can’t begin to imagine how the law will be enforced, but I suppose we will find out soon enough.

We have a God/Devil complex in this country, I think, that makes us feel really guilty about making any kind of mistake. It’s not particular to this country, of course, but it’s the one I’m most familiar with, having been born and raised here in the good ‘ole U.S. of A.

Guilt is a strange thing because we are, everyone one of us, a product of so many things that dictate what we do and how we do what we do. Our personal world consists of so many factors: what part of the country we are from; who our parents are; what we look like; what our parents do for a living; whether or not we have parents and what sex they are; what our siblings are like; whether or not we have siblings; what our relationship is with the rest of our family; what other family member’s relationships are with the rest of the family; sexual orientation; etc… So many things factor in, yet our God/Devil complex illustrates this much: We have a deviant side and an upstanding side to our personalities. You can’t convince me that one person is “all good” or “all bad”. You will never be able to convince me of that, ever. Some may lean more in favor of deviance and some more in favor of upstanding behavior, but never all or none.

Taking it a step further, you’ll never convince me that women are any different than men in certain fundamental ways. We may be more accepting of a man’s sexual drive just because he’s more straightforward, or err… obvious about it, but men also have nurturing sides and women have both drives, as well. The Madonna/Whore complex is just a God/Devil complex aimed at women’s sexuality. Women have a sex drive and have just as much tendency towards “deviance”–depending on an amalgam of chemicals and life experiences–as any man. Human beings we are, and that is something we cannot surgically remove. I know men who don’t have much of a sex drive and I know women whose sex drives are insatiable. It is what it is and judging it endlessly does not make it “go away”.

This phenomenon of men and women who exit porn and turn religious and denounce their time in porn should not surprise us. I have a theory about why it is not popularly accepted by proud porn people or the mainstream, but regardless, given our penchant for earthly pleasures over purity and the extremes we exploit and idolize, this really shouldn’t come as such a shock.

When we are young, we are impulsive. Not everyone, but some of us. Young adulthood and jumping out of the nest can meet us with some peculiar opportunities that seem exciting and fun, at the time. Technology makes it so that we have to navigate young adulthood like treading a mine field. Getting in any way inebriated in public and being spontaneous can find us on YouTube or some equally embarrassing media outlet. We can’t avoid it, either, but as the years go by, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to separate the horror stories from what’s become the norm. Teachers with porn pasts; people caught on camera without their permission; people captured on camera in a private moment that’s not intended for public consumption… In all of this, it’s safe to say that if a camera is turned on you, you are sober and aware, you sign a release and you are paid, that you wanted to be captured on camera in “that way”. The only problem after that is sorting out why and/or who to blame in an existential fashion.

I think, though, no matter what answers present themselves, if you did perform in porn, you have every right to navigate your conscience any way you like. A person who’s never performed in porn cannot understand that moment when young adulthood becomes a maturer adulthood–a kind of mid-adulthood crisis, if you will–and a solid look at the past can create confusion and emotional conflict. This is the danger of getting into porn, and it’s not that the person who performed in porn “did something wrong,” it’s that the new group of people in their life think (or possibly think) that they did something wrong.

Again, our lives are a stream of sensory snapshots that arrive at the present and it’s not really fair to judge people too harshly these days, what with the constant bombardment of stimulation: reality television, video games, iPhone apps, bogus television marriages that reap millions from viewers even though an annulment is had days later, etc. We’ve reached a collective point where our inner moral compass is kicked by the mainstream images and messages we see everyday. Most ads exploit the male and female body in some way. Reality television feeds off of pain, accidents, emotional explosions and doing disgusting things for survival. Even more confusing is that the line of morality in our culture seems only drawn at porn. Of course, that’s changing, as it should. Porn is pop culture. I had the pleasure of having an action figure made in my likeness. You can see my face in two mainstream movies, unexpectedly–Old School and Punch Drunk Love. I donated my voice to a song on Mötley Crüe’s album New Tattoo and celebrity boxed with fellow porn star Tawny Roberts in Philadelphia with Ron Jeremy as referee, just before watching Stone Temple Pilots and Kid Rock perform (and got to meet Scott Weiland in person–SQUEEEE!!!). I have enjoyed a level of pop culture fame that was a lot of fun (the action figure being, by far, my favorite). The ups and downs are many, though, and I also got divorced in 2003, had to explain to my son what I did for a living, and went through some really tough moments of disillusionment after retiring and making a life with my now non-industry husband, Doug.

I keep gushing over this, I know, but I love Alana Evans’ Dr. Drew interview because it aptly reminds me that I didn’t get into porn to maintain a drug habit, or screw over a lover, or get back at someone from my childhood. I got in to take care of my family. I did not do drugs, I didn’t lie to anyone about it and I did not break the law. I worked and then went home to my family. They came first, for me, until I realized that I was married to someone I didn’t like, anymore, and then they still came first. I started doing escort work to pay for two households, to pay off my ex’s debt; I paid him child support and palimony, and paid for all the travel to see my son. Until I met Doug, I couldn’t see that I was still in my bad marriage. He made me see that the only way to actually move forward was to make my ex accountable for himself, and only then, could I seize the opportunity for the kind of love I thought I’d found the first time around. In fact, I also watched Savanna Samson’s 20/20 interview recently and identify with her “people pleaser” response when asked why she didn’t just stop performing and decide to do something else. Doug also helped me see, even very recently, how I’ve spent a good portion of my life trying to please the wrong kinds of people. My life’s been a roller coaster ride, but at age thirty-eight, I’m still here. Everyday is a new adventure. Everyday is a kind of miracle enhanced by the compassion that has grown in me from the humbling experience of having worked in the sex industry.

Thing is, it’s for the individual to process life’s experiences. I recently read Gene Ross’ article on Dawson Miller–a woman who has gone from porn to denouncing porn and being very religious. I don’t think we should be too hard on anyone who’s actually done the work and has to define it later. We don’t know what kind of people they’re around today. If a person quits porn and moves somewhere remote, is it really a surprise that that they might find religion? Or that they might find religion and go back into porn to “positively influence” people just because they’re still very conflicted about their time in porn? People who have truly moved on don’t hang out on porn forums and post about porn and talk about it constantly. I, personally, am fascinated by my journey. Truth is, everyone is fascinated by the world of pornography, even if they don’t watch it. There are probably more documentaries about porn than any other industry. They’re almost all horrible, but that’s how fascinated people are with porn. Everyone is especially fascinated with life after porn. Hell, I’m fascinated with life after porn. I’m fascinated and enthralled and, like so many others, feel my experiences and thoughts could help someone somewhere struggling with whether or not they should get in or should feel bad because they did. And though it does seem that “finding God” as a porn performer goes over about as well as an über religious person being caught with a prostitute (extremism does invite extremes, after all), it is for us, the ones who’ve done it, to cry, or celebrate, or laugh, or lament about why we did it–and at some point, probably all of the above. We’ve earned the right to deal with it as we please, and just seeing how others deal with it fascinates me! I’ve met some great people and I’ve met some crappy people, but I’ve seen both sides. What is good or bad about porn, or any other experience in life, is amplified in us, by who we are as people. I had a mostly content time in porn, but then, I lean towards the sunnier disposition over the darker one. I guess I’m lucky like that.

This essay is inspired by the many stories I’ve read and heard, and continue to read and hear, from performers who have worked in the adult industry; including but not limited to: Alana Evans, Dawson Miller (NSFW), Holly Hollywood, Savanna Samson, Jane Hamilton, Kayden Kross, Sunny Leone, Jennie Ketcham, Jenna Jameson, and many, many more…

I love reading Anthony Kennerson’s articles. He gets really riled up, but he also gives informed and thoughtful responses to things he finds incredulous.

In this article he balks at Gail Dines for adding comments under an article she participated in, expressing bias and being hypercritical of Maura Kelly’s take on conversation and events around the Feminist Porn Awards in her Daily Beast article, Can Porn Be Feminist? I particularly like the addendum at the very end.

Anthony Kennerson, Still More Gail Dines Wingnuttery: The “Feminist Porn” Debate (Or, Why Calling The Life Partner Of A Feminist Icon “A Savage Torturer Of Women” Is Not A Good Idea):

ADDENDUM: As sometimes is the case, something that you wanted to add doesn’t appear until after you have hit the “Publish” button…but it’s so important to showing how so out of it Gail is regarding Tristan Taormino that I have to amend this post.

Dines had pointed out in her first comment fart that Taormino had worked with both Ernest Greene and John Stagliano. What she failed to note, however, was that the joint project that the three did together just so happened to be the first video adaptation of Tristan’s book, The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex For Women, which was released by Evil Angel back in 1999, and won several prestigious AVN awards in 2000.

Gail did get some things right about that particular video: It was full-on gonzo, it was pretty hardcore, and it did contain lots and lots and lots aaaannnnnnnddd LOTS of anal sex. Unfortunately for Gail, that’s where she goes off the rails.

The actual video is pretty much a hardcore educational and instructional video on how to safely introduce women to the joys of anal sex play. It actually begins with Tristan issuing a challenge to “Buttman” Stagliano that if she can convert one of his performers into liking anal play, then he has to fund her video. When he takes her on and presents “Ruby”, whom he says is pretty much unreceptive to taking it upp her butt, Taormino goes to work using all f her tools of the trade so to speak. Plenty of toys and lube and about an hour or two later, Ruby’s orgasming like a fountain, and Tristan has her movie funded.

The rest of the video is a progression in education: Nina Hartley donates her anal spincter to become a living anatomy tour; Chloe and Ernest Greene show the proper way to prepare for doing anal via a cleansing emena; diverse combinations of partners and arrangements for playing anally are shown (MMF, FF, and of course MF)…and the whole thing is topped by a grand orgy featuring Tristan herself being serviced by everyone!

Not exactly sadistic torture or men ripping women’s asses….right??

In fact, by showing that women actually do seek and find and are able to enjoy such pleasures openly and without shame, and tha male porn producers are indeed willing to listen to the needs of women, The Guide For Anal Sex For Women would seem to absolutely rubuke and blow to a smoldering cinder all of Dines’ presumptions about women in porn being mere receptacles of men. Small wonder, I guess, that she reacted with such bile to the Daily Beast article.

There was some very, ‘Octomom shot for a porn studio, but no one knows who it is’ and ‘isn’t that dastardly’ etc… stuff floating around recently (including my own incredulity that Steve Hirsch was offering her money to perform because she was destitute), but Dr. Chauntelle Tibbals wrote a piece that clears up a few issues about the information out there. Namely that Nadya Suleman funded said scene herself!

Reprinted from Porn Valley Vantage/PVVOnline, copyright © Chauntelle Anne Tibbals, PhD (www.PVVOnline.com), “PVV – Nadya “Octomom” Suleman… seriously?”:

After a day’s worth of trying to not say anything (more like a few hours really), I can’t stand it anymore…

Many many rumors and things are swirling around about this “issue,” and much information has been mis/reported, taken down, changed, updated, whatever by the mainstream and adult press. Here is an example of “changing facts” as they were documented on the adult news site LukeIsBack.com.

So, for the sake of clarity, here is what I know:

1. Nadya “Octomom” Suleman recently performed in a “self pleasure” video. In other words, she did a solo masturbation sex scene. She also did some nudie-foodie pics (covered in canned pasta).

2. The above-referred production was funded by Team Octomom. I am not sure who or what Team Octomom consists of, but they paid for the video and pics.

Let me repeat that: Nadya Suleman, et al paid for this shoot.

A nice followup to Alana Evans appearance on Dr. Drew is Alana’s interview with Adam Wilcox of XXXWasteland. She goes into detail about quite a few things. Here’s an excerpt where Alana talks about being on DR. Drew’s show.

Adam Wilcox, XXX Wasteland Exclusive Interview: Alana Evans

Yes, absolutely. Has the feedback you have received from your appearance on the show been positive for the most part?

For the most part, it’s been amazing. I haven’t received any negative backlash on Twitter. I have received a lot of new followers, a lot of women saying really incredible things, really respecting my choices and my decisions, I think the reason being our economy is hurting so badly and there are so many families and so many single women that are struggling to make ends meet no matter what their job is, and the fact that it is so difficult to find work, that if they had access to the kind of work that I had access to, one-hundred percent they would do it because it would mean that they could put shoes on their kids’ feet, they could feed them and they could pay their rent.

It’s been really cool because women who are okay with what I’m doing – who are okay with my choices, as I said – they are actually seeking me out and I’m having women ask me how they can get into the industry. And I thought that was very cool. I was like, “Wow!” (Laughs)

And I think, too, you can tell that I have my act together, you can tell that I speak very clearly, I like to think of myself as being intelligent, but I won’t brag about it. And I think that it removed a lot of the stereotypes that people have attached to women in porn.

Now, even with the latest Savanna Samson 20/20 story; I think it’s so amazing that Savanna – again, contract girl, which I was not. I made my business by myself: my own hard work, my own sweat, help from agents and things like that, but no company really behind me. So with Savanna, she’s not like the rest of us really are, trying to do porn multiple days a month to just pay those bills.

The only thing that disappointed me about Savanna was the fact that she said she had to do drugs in order to shoot, and that right there just totally solidified that stereotype again. So, I was glad to be able to show that not all of us have to do that. So … I’m on my own soapbox right now – sorry! (Laughs)

UPDATE: I was sent this announcement in an email and just found this at AINews.com:

[Source: VickyAtHome.com
by: Company Press Release]

Industry people laugh at the word “union”, but model releases are just one example of how performers get taken advantage of in porn.

I posted an interview with Holly Hollywood today where we talk about unions (link here), and it’s always the same.

Yes, there should be a union, but the turnover rate for performers is too high to warrant one because no one would join.

I’ve spoken about it with Holly, Nina Hartey, Jane Hamilton, Sunny Leone, Ron Jeremy and a slew of other people. Then this came from performer Sara Jay today about her legal issues with Brazzers creating an ‘official’ blog using her name and trying to use a standard model release as legal grounds for doing it:

Popular adult Superstar Sara Jay (www.sarajay.com & www.twitter.com/sarajayxxx) is happy to announce that she & Brazzers have mutually agreed to resolve a hard fought lawsuit filed by Jay over a website called “SaraJayBlog.com”.

The popular star sued Brazzers claiming it had set up the Blog through an Affiliate with the express purpose of impersonating her and stealing traffic. Brazzers disputed Sara Jay’s claims, asserting, among other things that it was not responsible for the actions of an affiliate that was sending it traffic.

Jay asserted that Brazzers was engaging in an industry wide practice of setting up similar blogs to ‘impersonate’ girls in the business to get traffic & sales.

After the case was filed, the Blog was taken down. Brazzers tried to have the entire case thrown out by the trial court claiming Jay’s claims were barred by an arbitration agreement in a modeling release Jay had signed which Brazzers said also gave it the right to ‘promote’ images it owned in whatever manner it saw fit.

After losing those arguments at the trial court level, Brazzers took an appeal up to the Court of Appeal which it lost resulting in an award of costs in Jay’s favor.

The case was ordered into mediation where the parties agreed to resolve the case with Brazzers agreeing Jay had the right to try and get the domain back for herself.

Sara Jay says: “I sued because there was a Blog out there purporting to be my ‘official’ blog which sent all the traffic – and sales – to Brazzers.

Needless to say, I take any attempt to use my name to make money of my name very seriously. We won at the Trial Court & Court of Appeal levels. However, with the blog now gone & Brazzers agreeing it would not stand in the way me getting back the url, settling made sense.

“We were both incurring massive amounts of time, legal expenses & costs – time I could be spending shooting or on my career. I’d rather be on set having sex for my fans than in a court room. It was a bitter battle with Brazzers & but it was better for both sides to resolve it.”

Of legal interest in the case was Brazzers’ claim that it had given an oral agreement for one Brazzers entity to use the model release rights to all other Brazzers entities.

The Court of Appeal found that an oral agreement pertaining to matters that are the subject of copyright (such as photographs) is invalid unless in writing. The court found that taking out the domain name “SaraJayBlog.Com” was not permitted by the Brazzers contract that Ms. Jay had signed.

It held that Ms. Jay’s “suit does not involve the subject matter of the [Brazzers’ entity] contract”. Whether this judicial ruling will cause Brazzers to change its policy of promoting its websites using domain names of the actresses with whom it has signed releases remains to be seen.

Sara Jay notes: “It’s amazing what companies are trying to do based on purported ‘modeling releases’. All I can say is… be careful what you sign.”

Sara Jay can be reached for comment at:
Sara@Sarajay.com
http://twitter.com/sarajayxxx

It’s not just residual money performers give up by signing a standard model release in the adult industry. I was on a set where Aurora Snow insisted on amending her model release before shooting pictures for the day. The reason being that the way these one-to-two page releases grant any and all rights to the producers “in perpetuity and throughout the universe.” So, basically, when you see an add for phone sex on the back of a XXX magazine and it’s your head on someone else’s body, don’t be surprised. You signed away your rights so the company could sell your picture to whomever they choose, who in turn can do whatever they choose with the photo.

And this is why some don’t think pornographers deserve too many tears cried in their favor when larger organizations come in and start regulating and telling them what they are going to do. Maybe a union is too unstable for such a changing industry, but some kind of organization just for performers–education in health, legal issues, money management, etc–is not an unreasonable idea.

I wish I had posted this sooner, but a tragedy only a few months after shooting diverted my attention. The time sensitive portion of this interview can be found at this link. Certainly not the bulk of the interview, but still it’s a lot packed into a short time so Holly Hollywood could get the word out about raising money for her daughter’s school. I hope my contribution helped.

This interview is over two years old but it still stands the test of time, and it was Alana Evans’ recent interview with Dr. Drew–answering the question of whether or not a porn star can be a good mother–that reminded me of it. (Link here)

I think it’s safe to say that people like Holly Hollywood prove that a porn star can not only be a good–if not amazing–mother, a porn star can be a magnificent human being. Period.

Holly’s website appears to be down for good, but I am friends with her through FaceBook, so I took a look and it shows her happy and living her life away from the adult industry, so I won’t add any links unless she asks me to. Mainly, I want this out in the world for her, and other capable women who also perform sex work who care for their families, don’t abuse drugs, and defy the stereotype that a porn star is a deviant, law-breaking victim/predator who abuses children and just hates people in general.

We talk about the condom mandate, how daunting the task is of finding a “regular” job after porn, her dog attack and successful surgery, sky diving, her day on the set of “Boogie Nights”, her many charity endeavors: cancer (because of a close friend); A is for Autism (because she has a special needs child); Ride to Recovery (a charity for veterans); a charity event she threw just for Stephanie Swift in Long Beach to help her through her own cancer ordeal. We talk about piracy and unions, a book entitled “The Four Agreements”, taking your inspiration where you can find it and generally being a good person who cares and makes a difference in this world by example. She is a fascinating person and, very clearly, a good mother.

I highly recommend watching the first interview at the link above. The opportunity to meet people like Holly Hollywood was the reason I started shooting a documentary in 2010 and I wish her all the best in everything she and her family endeavors to do.

Enjoy.

Gene Ross talks about how he came to be involved in pornography, his transition from working at AVN to working in the offices of Extreme Associates in the early 2000′s, managing his website and where the industry is headed. It’s a great interview with a very entertaining adult industry writer!

And to elaborate, Gene talks about being familiar with Ron Vogel’s work when Ron was just a glamour photographer, running www.AdultFYI.com (NSFW) for ten years, ghost directing “The Party” (the first five-star review in the history of AVN), and why a lot of the formulaic porn does not compare to the three companies Gene feels know how to make porn. You’ll have to listen to find out who they are.

It’s a great interview and I thank Mr. Ross for taking the time and for the compliment on one of my scenes (though I think he might actually be talking about Lindsey Meadows now?? Ha!!). Regardless, it was a pleasure!

“Hangin’ with Lydia Lee: Gene Ross Interview”: http://mixlr.com/lydiaannlee/showreel/hangin-with-lydia-lee-gene-ross-interview

Also, plugged during the show:

Blackboard Jungle is playing The Roxy on June 2nd, so get your tickets for that while you still can (link here).

Gotta post this again because it’s funny!!

If you are familiar with “Survivorman” then you know Les Stroud goes out into the wild and has to fend for himself for seven days. Doug loves the series, and being the sexual-humor-driven man he is, came up with a parody to apply to his own series, “Doing Sh!t with Doug”.

I think Les Stroud would be proud. Doug’s is a sincere and good-natured take on the survival guru. Doug, himself, is the ultimate craftsman (and crassman). Ha!!

I got this email from a friend. (I’ve embedded the referenced video at the bottom.)

“I had seen a Tweet from Nina Hartley; she had linked a Funny or Die video. Nina had linked it from the Huffington Post [link here].

Here’s the same video, direct from Funny or Die http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/87be7156f5/republicans-get-in-my-vagina?playlist=featured_videos

The thing I thought was absolutely hilarious is at 2:05 in the video. It’s a quote from a republican representative, Stephen Freind (R – Pennsylvania). I Googled “rep stephen freind r” to find some confirmation that this guy had said what the video claimed. I found the following article:

http://articles.philly.com/1988-03-23/news/26277205_1_freind-woman-secretes-luigi-mastroianni

Apparently he’s not the only one to claim such outlandish things. John Dannemeyer (R – California) claimed that victims of AIDS secret spores that cause birth defects.

No wonder these people don’t want sex education in schools because then people would be more likely to believe this stuff.

Also, I believe that the statements made by Freind and Dannemeyer is proof that (republican) politicians are this ignorant due to inbreeding.” — LOL

(Thank you for sending this to me!!)

The Free Speech Coalition released on May 2nd, Part 1 of a “three-part series designed to clarify the mandatory condom regulation activity in the City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County and the state of California.” It’s a timeline and very helpful to anyone new to the issue and catching up on what’s going on. Here’s an excerpt.

FSCBlogger.com, “Condom Ordinance Update” – Part One (SFW):

What is the Status of the LA City Mandatory Condom Ordinance for Adult Productions?

Early in 2011, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) brought the issue before the Los Angeles City Council. The council voted down the proposed regulation because the City Attorney deemed that it was a state issue and that the city had no jurisdiction. On July 20, 2011, in an unprecedented act, CalOSHA sent a letter to the city of Los Angeles stating that the city does have jurisdiction because the city “does not seek to enact an occupational health and safety standard but rather a public health standard applicable to any film activity (regardless of employment relationship) within the city boundaries”.

On Thursday December 1, 2011, AHF submitted 70,000 signatures to the Los Angeles City Clerk’s office to put an initiative on the June ballot that would tie the provision of film permits with a regulation mandating condoms on adult production sites. It is estimated that AHF spent at least $350,000 for paid signature gatherers to get the initiative on the ballot.

Late December of 2011, the Los Angeles City Attorney filed suit against AHF arguing that putting the proposed initiative on the ballot would be too costly for the City–$4.4 million. Furthermore, the City Attorney argued that the initiative would be a waste of taxpayer funds because the jurisdiction rests at the state level and that the initiative is likely unconstitutional.

Unfortunately, I did not get to see the entire interview, but the available clip of Alana Evans questioned by Dr. Drew showed her poised, clear and sounding very much like a good mother. I appreciate intelligent women like Alana, Kayden Kross, Nina Hartley, Sunny Leone et. al. for showing the world that a sex worker can be engaging, thoughtful and non-hysterical. And I like the Huffington Posts’ take on it, but rather than share an excerpt of the story, here’s a very bright comment from one of the readers.

HuffingtonPost.com, “Alana Evans, Porn Star, Discusses Motherhood, Parenting On Dr. Drew’s HLN Show (VIDEO)”:

I actually watched Dr. Drew that night and thought that Alana was really centered. What I liked about her was that she said she had been really upfront with her son about it as soon as he was able to understand. She then said that when he was about 12 years old, older boys from the school’s football team had asked him if his mother was a pron star and he said that she was. There was no further problem because she had prepared him for that day. the other woman, Shelley Lubben, said she hid it from her child and her child grew up thinking mom was a movie star (I wonder if she ever went to the movies), until the day she found one of her mother’s tapes. IMO, that’s why the child was so hurt, because of the lie. I’ve taught children whose mothers were prostitutes and the majority were very good moms who made it a point to stay informed on their kids’ education.
