Michael Whiteacre at UCLA, an FSC post and a Cameron Rowe post
Yesterday was quite a day for posts and information.
First and foremost, Michael Whiteacre has a video posted on his YouTube page. Yesterday a panel of two adult industry people vs. four non-industry people sat down to discuss condom regulations at UCLA and it sounds like it was yet another ridiculous show of ignorance on the part of the non-industry people. First, Michael’s video:
Michael points out the absolute lack of logic in Shelley Lubben’s longtime statement that she absolutely contracted herpes on a porn set while also claiming to have gotten pregnant three times as a prostitute. She could have contracted herpes through the fluid transfer of pregnancy, or clients breaking condoms on purpose–also a statement directly from her mouth. Or from a client bleeding on her mouth. Yes, that is also a direct statement from Shelley, herself. Nothing adds up with this exclaimer of “Get The Facts”. Is there anything factual in her statements at all? How is it that facts only apply to other people and not to her or Pink Cross Foundation?
If you are looking for an informative post on the discussion panel at UCLA yesterday, check out Free Speech Coalition’s article Ignorance is the Disease: Thoughts on the UCLA Condoms in the Adult Industry Panel, written by Joanne Cachapero. If you look elsewhere you’ll read things like, “The saddest part was the lack of performers standing up for themselves.” FSC’s post will explain why there were so few industry people there, and only two people from the adult industry on the panel. Basically, the non-industry people didn’t want them there.
I really question the credibility of Cal/OSHA and AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) saddling themselves next to someone with such lack of credibility as Shelley Lubben. My very long comment can be found on FSC’s site, but I want to repost it here:

She states how much more dangerous the adult industry is after stating that, as a prostitute, she was bled upon, stalked, that clients tried to murder her. She repeatedly sites every porn star as being mentally ill though she does not have the education and credentials to diagnosis anyone’s medical situation. She touts only the professional ability to teach and counsel in Christian-[r]elated studies. In fact, her “degree” does not transfer to any accredited college and it is listed on the Consumer Fraud Reporting website as an unaccredited school, prefacing their list with this statement:
“All schools below are considered by the state of Oregon’s and other U.S. and international standards to be UNACCREDITED. Many are scams, a few may be decent schools, but ALL are without accreditation, something most sensible people would say is a starting point to obtain a quality education and a degree that will be broadly accepted and respected.”
So the catchphrase “Get The Facts” that is splattered all over Shelley’s personal website and Pink Cross Foundation’s website only applies to other people and not her? Really??? Someone please explain to me how that makes any sense whatsoever. Does she need the definition of the word “fact” read to her?

But there’s more!
Cameron Rowe wrote an article on Lubben on his blog, The News No One Reports. It’s called, The Pink Cross and Shelley Lubben: An Expose Parts 1-2 of 3. He mentions me for something I added after reading it: that according to an AVN article entitled, MENTAL FLOSS: CalOSHA, Condoms and The Big Lie, written by Mark Kernes, Shelley can only be traced to twelve out of the thirty movies she claims to have starred in. That’s less than half and if she can’t prove the rest, it’s heresy. Thank you, Mr. Rowe, for adding my note to that. The third part of this exposé is coming soon and I’ll be posting it here when it’s available. This is a good one because Cameron points out some things even my research hadn’t uncovered about Lubben’s so-called degree.
“Vision’s website doesn’t offer a “Bachelor’s of Theology” degree. It only offers a Bachelor of Ministry degree completion. It is also a $9,000 course. There is a Masters of Theology degree but that’s not a Bachelors degree.”
I only mention that one bit because you should read the whole thing. I can’t wait to read Part 3.

More seriously: nice, devastating critique of Lubben’s ravings (I can’t really call it anything else). To include Lubben on that UCLA panel lends undue legitimacy to her and, by extension, Pink Cross.
I was particularly sickened to read Lubben’s comparison of the experience of “women like her” and experience of Vietnam vets.

You are welcome! Let me know what you think. There is more on this to come. I think it works the reverse, as well. To include Lubben lends illegitimacy the intentions of UCLA, AHF, Cal/OSHA and LA County Public Health. It’s evidently not a real and serious issue to these people–just a circus.

Exactly! Michael makes a very good reference to boxers. No one would ask boxers to wear body gloves and goggles, and no one understands that it’s not about ruling out condoms and safety measures, it’s about asking the industry people what they think, not stone walling them and treating them like incompetent children on the issue, and creating regulations that actually suit the needs of the industry. Their tactics are blatantly disregarding of the people doing the actual work. Non one from the industry walks into Shelley’s church and asks her to cover up her bulging chest because she’s objectifying herself in front of the male members of the congregation.
Sweet! Joy would know since she is another awesome Aquarius lady. January 4th–the day after my birthday–if I remember correctly.
In this instance, Shelley Lubben is essentially like Norman Beale in “Network”: a sick, deranged person being exploited by others for their own (political and financial) gain. This is a shameful act of expedience on their part. To me, expedience is defined as “pissing in your boots to keep your feet warm.”
AHF, UCLA, and entities created to foster public health and serve the public interest have aligned themselves with this fanatic. At UCLA they cited her (STD and porn-related) claims and rants approvingly. There were medical professionals on this panel! Lubben claims God cured her herpes and mental illnesses. No one said a word.
Public Health is a sphere in which medicine and economics intersect, and I am more certain than ever that most of what we see going on in the debate today is centered on the fight over grant dollars.
As for the panel actively trying to keep adult industry members away, I can attest that it is true. This event was not promoted at all. I stumbled upon a reference to it in the calendar on Lubben’s site two days before the event. She listed the name of the event, the location, and gave the start time as 11:00 am. I passed the info on to Free Speech Coalition, and Diane Duke essentially “bullied” her way onto the panel. FSC also alerted AVN.
The original panel line-up had included only adult performer Mr. Marcus, opposed by Lubben, Dr. Peter Kerndt (from LA County Dept of Public Health), and Whitney Engeran-Cordova (from AHF). That’s a three-to-one ratio. After Diane Duke was added to the bill, suddenly the incredibly rude and small-minded Dr. Paula Tavrow was added to make it four-to-two. They had planned to bushwhack Marcus, plain and simple. I also find it interesting that the performer they invited to address an audience about 90% of which was young women, was a physically intimidating black performer who had never participated in ANY of the prior discussions and events regarding OSHA, or AHF.
Diane Duke deserves a lot of praise for stepping up and doing such an excellent job against a coordinated, unified front. The other anti-porn interests even had coordinated powerpoint slideshow presentations. They presented a unified front.
Shelley Lubben must have been told to not promote the event, because after FSC (and AVN) called over to the organizers, citing Shelley’s website as how they heard about it, the start time on Shelley’s site was mysteriously ALTERED to 2:00 pm (which is 50 minutes after he event had to end so that a scheduled class could use the room). I must conclude they called her to complain, and Shelley’s initial instinct, as usual, was to distort the truth. She takes a kernel of truth, and then twists it to serve her needs.
This panel was plotted as a way for a cabal of likeminded interests to add another all-star meeting to their roster, try out their propaganda on a small test audience, and hopefully get a few quotes to use for self promotion. That I outed them, foiled that plan, and took the fight to them is a badge of honor for me. But the real praise belongs to Mr. Marcus and Diane Duke, who knowingly walked into a turkey shoot.
Yes, I found a link on Darrah Ford’s site posted just the day before the panel meeting siting the discussion time from 11:30am to 1:00pm. You’ll like this flyer:

Kudos to you, Diane Duke and Mr. Marcus for your bravery. Sinister is a word that comes to mind in light of all the details. It appears they also counseled Shelley to tame down her usual big hair and chest-enhanced image. I found this quote from Shelley over the weekend and it seems fitting of the conversaion:

Wow, I would trust George W. Bush more then her. Notice how it was conviently left out that this event was announced at the last minute, and that Diane Duke had to force her way onto that already unbalanced panel.
I take serious exception to her comments that “anyone who defends this industry is mentally ill, jaded, and demonized”. WHAT THE FUCK?????
Also she complains about the rampant drug use on porn sets. Here’s what Joy (King) told me about what happens when that goes down on one of her sets:
“We fired a director for allowing pot deals on our sets. That and he asked a girl to blow him. We were like, wtf? Before her scene, he took her in the back while the stills were being shot. That was his last movie for us. Idiot…I can’t believe he thought we wouldn’t find out.”

Besides that…wasn’t “Roxy” (Shelley’s porn persona) a specialist in some of the more extreme circus sex acts around during her very brief stand as a performer?? I wonder if she would come out and name names about the male performers she’s done scenes with, and call them out as fervently as she does Marcus..whom I figure she’s never met, let alone performed a scene with.
Not only is Mr. Marcus NOT known for going Max Hardcore, but it’s in fact the opposite of Shelley’s delusions: he’s actually well recommended by female performers exactly for his sensitivity and willingness to go the extra mile for their pleasure. Trust me, he wouldn’t be selling his current book were it otherwise.
But then again, everything Shelley Lubben touches seems to turn into a steaming hot mess.
I may go ahead and give her another reading soon. Shelley’s really starting to tick me off.

Mr. Marcus is one of the kindest people a woman could work with in adult, at least from my time in adult. My guess is was picked for his appearance but only for his gentle nature, because he strikes me as a lover and not a fighter. Unbelievable.
